First All-Female Wine Judging Event in Japan
 “The First Japan Women’s Wine Award 2014 ~Sakura Wine Award~”

170 Female wine specialists judging over the course of 4 days.

1,934 wine entries from 30 countries

*One fourth of the entry is from France

*4th Spain
*5th Japan
*6th USA, Australia, S. Africa, Argentina, Portugal, Germany,
New Zealand, Austria, Switzerland and other countries.

It was expected that the one fourth of entry was from France, the country where the largest imported wines are from. The wines are categorized in 51 classes and Italy had the most entries to these categories. Over the years Chili started to produce high-end wines and will be competitive to European wines in the near future. Beside the fact that the Spain has a long history, in the beginning of 1990 there has been new serge of wineries. It will be interesting to see how they will perform. There are 135 wine entries from Japan, Yamanashi being the majority. There are wines from Miyazaki, the most southern prefecture of Japan and from northern part of Hokkaido. It will be interesting to see how these wine will fare with wines from overseas. There are entries from Turkey, Rumania, Maldives, Macedonia and Azerbaijan, which are new to the Japanese market.

The initial announcement of the “Double Gold”, “Gold”, and “Silver” awards will be made on Valentine’s Day online at and Japan’s largest fashion news site, “modelpress”.

Award Presentation and display at FOODEX JAPAN 2014 at Makuhari Messe

The wines will be categorized into 51 groups based on the varietal and type and will be judged by blind tasting. The “Double Gold,” “Gold” and “Silver” awards will be selected based on the number of points received in the tasting. The highest rated wines will be awarded the “Diamond Trophy”. There will also be special awards including: “Cost Performance,” “Best Accompanied Wine for Special Cuisine,” “Best Wine made by Female Winemaker,” and “Best Label Design”. The “Diamond Trophy” and the other special awards will be announced at the award presentation on the first day of FOODEX JAPAN at Makuhari Messe. The awards will also be on display during the exhibition--where 70,000 visitors are expected to attend.

Sakura Wine Award Campaigns throughout Japan

Sakura Wine Award Campaigns will take place at various department stores and wine shops. The awarded wines will be available for purchases. The details will be announced on our Website.
